April 2018 Canoe/Kayak Trip

Andrew Cracknell will be leading a canoe safari around the creeks next Sunday 8th April, weather permitting. If you’re interested in joining in, please be at the club for 11am. It will be a gentle pace and all abilities are very welcome.

April 2018 Easter Egg Race Postponed

In view of the sea temperature, predicted rain, and a wind speed forecast of Beaufort 6 (22 knots/25mph) gusting Beaufort 7 (27knots/35mph), the Easter Egg race is cancelled. The Natalie Gail is not available, and the Herbert E would not be adequate safety cover in these conditions.

18.03.17: Bangers and Bingo

Come along to our next fun social occasion – Bangers (and Mash…..and a pudding too) and Bingo! The cost for the two-course meal is £7.50. Arrive at 7.00 for 7.30 p.m. Numbers will be limited – please book with Justine on sec.wells.sailing@gmail.com

08.04.17: Working Party

Please note that this is a change

from the previously published date of 16.04.17 which is Easter weekend

At this time of year there is a great deal of work to do to get the Club ready for the beginning of the season – sailing and social! We are looking for as many members as possible to come along on Saturday 8th April to help with work both inside the Club and outside. Everyone is welcome – we have jobs that require skills, and many that do not!

There will be soup for all volunteers – please contact Justine  to confirm that you will be there sec.wells.sailing@gmail.com

01.04.17: Fitting Out Supper

The beginning of the sailing season is fast approaching, and will be marked as usual by the Fitting Out Supper on 1st April . We will be having a two-course meal (£10) and hope to be admiring the new marquee for the first time – all being well!

We hope as many of you as possible will come along – we will send an email to the membership with further details, but you can book early to avoid disappointment, by contacting Justine on sec.wells.sailing@gmail.com

Feb 2017: Marquee

After many years of good service, our wonderful ‘Party Tent’ got damaged in strong winds at the end of last year. The committee have spent many months researching what the Club requires when buying a replacement and have finally ordered a custom-made marquee. It will be used for the first time at the 2017 FITTING OUT CELEBRATION on 01/04/17. We hope as many people as possible will come along to mark the beginning of the Sailing season – and admire the marquee!

Feb 2017: Article for the Quay Magazine

For those of you who do not get a copy of ‘The Quay’ – a free monthly magazine distributed around Wells – you may not be aware that we try to put a small article in each month to raise our profile locally. In February, we wrote:
A new year and our thoughts turn to a fast approaching new sailing season. Our sailing starts in April so there is much to do before then.
The boats need to prepared and readied. Our lovely Sharpies look great but they need a bit of TLC in the winter months. The club boats, safety boats and the club house itself all need attention and this is usually done by groups of keen club members.
The social side of the club continues year round and our bar is open on Sunday lunch times so anyone interested in joining the club should pop in and find out more. We welcome people to join us and we would love to find somebody who could help us with our club and safety boats. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Justine on sec.wells.sailing@gmail.com
