April 2018 Canoe/Kayak Trip

Andrew Cracknell will be leading a canoe safari around the creeks next Sunday 8th April, weather permitting. If you’re interested in joining in, please be at the club for 11am. It will be a gentle pace and all abilities are very welcome.

April 2018 Easter Egg Race Postponed

In view of the sea temperature, predicted rain, and a wind speed forecast of Beaufort 6 (22 knots/25mph) gusting Beaufort 7 (27knots/35mph), the Easter Egg race is cancelled. The Natalie Gail is not available, and the Herbert E would not be adequate safety cover in these conditions.

Get Afloat 2017

Dear Members

Next Sunday 2nd July is ‘Get Afloat’. It would be great to see lots of members out on the water. There will be many different boats available, so come along and try something new, or bring your own boat to give others a go. There will be life jackets and sailing gear available to borrow and lots of help on hand, so even if you’ve never been on a boat before, you’ll be taken care of. We will finish the fun with a BBQ back at the club.

The plan for the day is to:
Be at club at 12:00 to help rig & prepare boats.
Leave slipway at 12:45
High tide 2:00
Return to club for free BBQ after sailing.
If you’re planning to stay for the BBQ please let Mim know so we have an idea of numbers. mimgibbs@googlemail.com

Everyone is welcome!

British Championship

British Championship

This year we are not doing online registration and will ask you to complete the entry form when you come to register but it would be very useful if you would email me if you intend to enter so we have an idea of numbers. I will acknowledge your email and send you the sailing instructions so you can get your questions ready for the briefing!.
Full details will be posted on the Wells SC website soon and we will put a list of current entrants on the website and also BSOA Facebook / Wells SC Facebook pages.
We are expecting a decent turnout with visitors from Holland and Germany already confirmed and we know we will receive a friendly welcome from Wells SC.

New Channel

A message from Wells harbour.

News - 1 - Notice to Mariners - Change to navigable channel

This link is fairly self explanatory, instead of the channel following the marsh and then two right angle bends to pass to the south of ‘Dickie’s Island’, it cuts from the marsh side about half way down, across to the beach bank roughly opposite the catamaran to the west of Dickie’s Island’. They dredged there last week to help block off the old route. The port hand buoys are now accurate.

Wells Carnival

Many people have fond memories of Wells Carnival when it was more water based. The Carnival committee wonder it there is anyone who is interested in helping to bring back some of these activities. We’ve been told about tug of war, marsh jumping and rowing races but need more information, maybe we can do something with the growing kayak fleet.
